Summary

The webinar offered a comprehensive breakdown of several key topics in the current climate and carbon management landscape.

Rohan, Senior Carbon Manager at Climate Connect Digital, initiated the event by highlighting the urgency of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. He focused on the increasing adoption of carbon measurement and disclosures through frameworks like TCFD and CDP. The transition towards mandatory reporting, exemplified by the ISSB and the proposed SEC climate rule, underscored the evolving significance of transparent and accurate carbon reporting.

Following on from this overview of upcoming regulations, CCD’s Head of Carbon Business Growth, Rahul Rana, delved into carbon reduction strategies and pricing implications. He underscored the need for deep emission cuts and carbon removals to meet climate targets, explaining diverse internal carbon pricing methods. Rahul detailed projections of carbon pricing costs, emphasizing that investing in effective strategies, including offsetting, can lead to both emission reduction and improved financial performance.

The third session featured a presentation by Dr. Mustafa Ali Khan, Assistant VP of Carbon & Net Zero at Climate Connect Digital, which shed light on offsetting and insetting strategies and emphasized their roles in achieving the 1.5-degree goal. He discussed verification standards and highlighted the need for a synergistic approach that combines both strategies to effectively reduce emissions. The webinar concluded with a demo of CarbonShop, CCD’s digital platform, which enables the purchase of vetted carbon credits and offers various features to support partners and customers in offset selection and acquisition. Overall, the webinar provided valuable insights into navigating the climate landscape, carbon reduction strategies, and the importance of choosing appropriate offset projects for a sustainable future.
